The decoration of this portable shrine, probably used for private devotion, combines Ottoman craftsmanship, Christian subject matter, and painting in the styles of the European Renaissance and the Eastern Orthodox Church. It is a striking example of fruitful interaction of cultures. The Virgin and Child are flanked by an angel and a bearded figure with a halo. The inside of the doors show two saints within medallions of tortoiseshell and ivory. Patterned marquetry in mother-of-pearl and tortoiseshell , characteristic of Ottoman Empire style, covers the case and doors.
