This silk cap is embellished with a type of embroidery popular from the 19th century onwards, and popularized in the regional kingdoms that flourished following the decline of the Mughal empire. Kalabattu embroidery uses fine threads of silver or gilt to create airy, delicate patterns, which are further augmented with the use of silk or cotton thread to hold the wires in place.
