This stand in the form of a phallus is a direct reference to the Shiva lingam. Bali remains Hindu today and Shiva is an important deity. Stands such as this were used in Balinese courts for the ceremonial display of heirloom kerises. Such stands were also placed near the entrance of a home as a place for guests to place their kerises whilst visiting.
