Cotton cloth

This cloth, perhaps a table or hanging cloth, is mordant and resist-dyed in shades of red. The floral medallion in the centre is surrounded by repeated designs of horses, and an elephant with a woman behind. These are perhaps from the same stencil, but differently coloured. The women on the cloth wear the long rectangular cloth called a tuppotiya, a garment commonly worn in Sri Lanka. This, and the look of the figures and animals, suggests this cloth was designed in Sri Lanka.
