Woodscape I

Born in Singapore in 1946, Chong Fahcheong is a prominent sculptor known for his wood carvings and public commissions. He was featured in the 1991 Sculpture in Singapore exhibition at the National Museum Art Gallery. This is an early work which demonstrates the sculptor’s mastery of material and references his Peranakan heritage and interest in the ornate. It showcases his signature technique of putting wood planks together, carving across, and then separating them.
