In light of the impending British military withdrawal, mandatory National Service was inaugurated in 1967 and with it a National Defence Fund. Throughout 1968, Singaporeans of various walks of life contributed to the fund. Many events were also organised for fund-raising, such as the entertainment show presented by Rediffusion Singapore which is documented in this souvenir magazine.
