Jar with loop handles

This jar has a tapered body with a pair of lugs on its high shoulders and is covered with a lightly-crackled, olive-green glaze.Northern Thailand was a production centre of high-quality, glazed ceramics from the early fourteenth to mid-sixteenth century. The kiln sites of Sankampaeng, 25 km east of Chiang Mai, were discovered around the mid-20th century. The Sankampaeng kiln complex was the second most extensive in the Lanna kingdom, and made mostly monochrome brown or celadon wares, brown and green wares, and underglazed double-fish design bowls. Wares were stacked rim-to-rim for firing, and so have characteristically unglazed rims and bases.
