These are a set of photos related to the Suez Canal. The opening of the suez canal in 1869 greatly reduced the time taken for ships to sail from Europe to Asia, this greatly increased Singapore's trade volume. Reduced travel time also increased the ease of tourists from Europe visiting Singapore.
