This photograph album belonged to Ronald Leslie Hewitt Smith, Leading Wireman with the Royal Navy who was posted to Singapore between 1945 to 1946. Smith was initially part of the Landing Craft Tank LCT 947, which took part on D Day operations in Normandy. Subsequently he served on Landing Craft Infantry (Light) LCI(L) 925 in Asia, and arrived with the 270th Flotilla that landed in Singapore on 25 December 1945 via the Strait of Gibraltar, the Suez Canal and India. The photographs in the album depict the private sides of Smith and the other men in the flotilla experiencing life in Singapore in the immediate post-war years.
