Telia Rumal, also known as the ‘Asia rumal’ is an ikkat produced for local wear and trade in the Andhra Region of Southern India.Ikat, the technique in which the warp and weft can be tie-dyed to create programmed patterns when woven was practiced widely in India. Masulipatnam, a centre of trade and textile production was well known for the telia rumal, a multi-purpose cloth used as a loin cloth, lungi, turban, drape or sari. The use of large quantities of oil or tel in the preparation of the yarn earned this textile the name telia. This is a double ikkat telia rumal sari with a repeatitive stepped square pattern.
