This chalcedony snuff bottle is carved with a brown dog playing with a brocade ball. Bottles decorated with small dogs, usually Pekingese dogs, were often seen on bottles produced during the reign of the Daoguang emperor (1821 – 1850) as the animals were favoured by the empress.
