This receipt from Kwong Cheong Gold & Silver Smiths at Banda Street is evidence of the changes that have taken place over the years in Chinatown. Banda Street in the 1900-1930 was a red-light area. Its proximity to Sago Lane also saw the rise of merchants selling goods related to funeral processions. Post-1960s, commercial shops such as Kwong Cheong form the units along Banda Street
