Bagh or garden embroidery is elaborate tapestry like embroidery covering the base fabric completely, leaving it visible in parts only as an outline. Bagh embroidery are described as "veritable flower gardens" due to their rich and colourful appearance. The bagh and phulkari embroidery are traditional embroidery done by the women in Punjab, India. These embroidered textiles were gifted to a young bride at the time of her wedding as part of her trousseau; some designed for everyday wear and others for special occasions. Young Punjabi girls are taught the craft of phulkari embroidery in their teen years, to contribute to the making of their own phulkari. The phulkari textile is an integral element of Punjabi tradition in India and among the widespread Punjabi diaspora, including Singapore’s Punjabi community.
