Singapore Rural Board (Western Region) Volunteer Police

This is a picture showing a contingent from the Singapore Rural Board (Western Region) Volunteer Police. During the Malayan Emergency (1948-1960), Neo Tiew (Leong Huo Chu, 1884-1975) assisted the Rural Board (Western Region) in establishing a volunteer police for the Lim Chu Kang area. Neo was a Chinese community leader who was responsible for the development of the Lim Chu Kang area from the early 20th century to the 1950s. Neo Tiew Road, Neo Tiew Lane and Neo Tiew Crescent are named after him.
