This photograph is part of a series which depicts the sights and scenes of 19th and 20th century Singapore. When it was still known as the Raffles Library and Museum, the museum kept an extensive array of collections that focused on the Malayan region. Zoology, ethnology, botany, geology and numismatics were fields the institution specialised in. The institution was renamed the National Museum after Singapore became an independent republic in 1965.
