This bezoar is encased in a silver case to protect it. Bezoars are calculus found mainly in the gastrointestinal organs of certain animals. They were believed to be powerful antidotes against the presence of poison in liquids and food, and were also thought to have magical healing properties. The word bezoar is derived from the Persian word pâdzahr, which gives the meaning as antidote.
