This is a poster from the 2011 production of Emily of Emerald Hill by Singapore theatre company W!ld Rice for their 10th anniversary starring Ivan Heng in the title role of Emily Gan. Written by Stella Kon, the play is one of Singapore’s most iconic plays. The poster reflects one version of this play and how Peranakans have contributed to theater in Singapore. Ivan Heng is the founding artistic director of W!ld Rice, an internationally recognized theater practitioner, Cultural Medallion Award recipient and of Peranakan descent. Founded in 2000 with Emily as its first performance, W!ld Rice is one of Singapore’s leading professional theatre companies.
