This international driving permit belonged to Mr. Yap Soon Eng, who was a seaman by occupation. The permit was issued to him on 3 October 1974 by the Automobile Association of Singapore (AAS).The Singapore Automobile Club, the first motoring club on the island, was founded in 1907 by a group of motorcar enthusiasts. In 1932, the club merged with the Automobile Association of Malaya (AAM). Members of the Singapore branch eventually decided to break away and form the AAS in 1952. The Association provided members with services such as emergency breakdown repairs and the issuing of international driving permits.
