The use of gold ribbon called gota is associated with the region of Rajasthan. Although most often used for embellishment in a variety of ways on women’s clothing, gota has been used as turban borders and, as in this case, as ornamentation for a cap. Apart from using gota as borders, the ribbons are also often folded and stitched in small pieces to create designs like flowers and leaves.
