Red blouse designed by Thomas Wee

This red blouse is from Thomas Wee’s First Lady collection designed for Tangs Orchard. In 2009, Wee was approached by Tangs Orchard to launch his collection at its department store on Level 2, which has a section for homegrown designers including Peter Kor. This collection is priced between $189 and $1199.Thomas Wee is one of Singapore's pioneer fashion designers from the 1980s. Despite being self-taught, Wee was able to establish himself as one of Singapore's most influential designers known for his precise tailoring and cut. In 1982, Wee opened his first boutique selling high end fashion at Far East Plaza. In 1986, he started Mixable, the first line for career women by a local designer. He also created diffusion lines such as Preta, Sino and Made in Heaven, a bridal gown label. Like many local designers then, Wee was hit by the mass market syndrome and the Asian economic crisis. Hence, he stopped designing in 1999 and switched to teaching fashion in the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. In 2008, Wee ended his break from the fashion scene by launching a show at the Singapore Fashion Festival. There were also talks about starting an Orchard Road flagship boutique with financial backing from homegrown hedge fund Ferrell Asset Management which did not take off.
