This green four-tiered food container, known as a tiffin carrier or tingkat, was used to store and transport food. It is made of metal coated with vitreous enamel, a smooth, durable layer of glass fused to the surface at high temperatures.
One side is decorated with birds among flowering branches, while the reverse bears well wishes in Malay: “Slamat bukka” (open safely) on the lid; “Slamat angkat” (carry safely) on the top two tiers, “Slamat pakkey” (happy using) on the third tier, and “Slamat untong” (wishing you good fortune) on the bottom tier.
