This is a black and white photograph of a Peranakan wedding couple flanked by a page boy and page girl standing on an Irish carpet in front of the house. The bride is wearing a Ming style ceremonial robe consisting of a large T-shaped garment reaching slightly below the knees, as well as a skirt made up of a frontal and a back panel joined together at the waist by strings. She strikes a formal pose by folding her hands in front of her and adjusts the ends of the two large sleeves so that one slips into the other. Apart from other accessories, the page girl (penapek) in the picture wears a headdress. These are usually made from gold thread embroidery, metallic beads and sequins on a red velvet base with fragile tassels of faceted beads. Both the page boy and girl played important roles in the traditional 12 day Peranakan wedding.
