The St. John Ambulance Brigade (SJAB) in Singapore is part of an international network of similar or affiliated organizations of the same name which originated from the St. John Ambulance Association founded in 1877 in the United Kingdom. The SJAB is a voluntary body that is dedicated to the teaching and practice of first aid, and the provision of nursing care. It was founded in Singapore in 1935 by Dr. J.S.Webster and several of his colleagues. Its headquarters at Beach Road was officially opened by the Yang di-Pertuan Negara (Head of State) Enche Yusof Ishak on 24 June 1960.
