The blue and white pattern on this tea bowl is transfer printed. The process entails using an engraved copper plate to print the design with oily enamel pigment onto a sheet of paper. This would then be pressed onto the ware before glazing. Parts of the decoration especially in areas with fine details were often blurred, as seen in this example.
