This is a box from Bee Chow Company, a merchant tailor that was at Chulia Street since the 1940s. It was probably used to pack men’s custom tailored clothing. Boxes were used to pack men’s wear for the customer so as to keep the structure of the clothing. Bee Chow custom tailors men’s wear, in particular, business suits, which shows the popularity of Western style clothing among the upper-middle class in Singapore in the early 20th century.
