This is a box from Robinson and Company, the oldest department store in Singapore. This box was probably used to pack clothing. Boxes were used to pack clothing for the customer so as to keep the structure of the clothing. Robinsons, as it is commonly known as, was founded in 1858 by Englishman Philip Robinson. It was located at Raffles Place before it moved to the Specialists Shopping Centre after it was demolished by a fire in 1972. Robinsons was popular with the European community and the local upper class in the pre- and post-war years. In November 2013, Robinsons moved its Orchard store to a new $40-million store at The Heeren Shops, bringing in new trendy brands to attract an upmarket crowd.
