This lantern, known as the Ting Kong Teng, would be the first thing that one would see in front of a Peranakan Chinese ancestral house. Ting Kong Teng were lanterns that were used in worship of Ting Kong (Heavenly Grandfather), the Chinese folk name of the Jade Emperor and Teng is a Chinese (Hokkien) word for lantern. He is one of the most important deities worshipped by the Peranakan Chinese.
