This namwood window bar is carved and gilded with bamboo and bird motifs. It is reported to have been salvaged from an old terrace house in Singapore, of the type associated with the ancestral homes of Peranakan Chinese. The most common type of window bars were made of plain cast or rod iron that was painted. Carved window bars are rare; it was more common for window shutters and window screens to be carved instead.
