This tile features a combination of cultural influences. The leaves and rosettes are typical motifs of Iran and Turkey, and the yellow cloud band is Chinese-inspired. The designs featured here are not only widely found on the tiles of Iran from the 17th century but can also be found in manuscript illumination and textiles. Look out for the cloud band design decorating some of the Qur’ans on display. The use of the same motifs across different materials is a characteristic of Islamic art.
