Dragon dance performers at a parade

Symbolising good luck and prosperity, the dragon dance is usually performed during auspicious occasions. The dragon is made out of seven to thirteen sections of bamboo or wooden frames (plastic or aluminium are also used today) and covered with a colourful cloth. Each section is attached to a pole, which is handled and manipulated by a performer. The number of performer depends on the length of the dragon, which requires coordination and great skill to handle as the movements have to reflect the elegance and swiftness of a dragon.
