Owned by Pontiac Pte. Ltd. and managed by the Intercontinental Hotels Corporation, the Pavilion Intercontinental Hotel opened in November 1982. It was the first hotel designed by world renowned American architect, John Portman, outside of the USA. Known for his signature grand atrium designs, the hotel has a pyramid-style atrium which opens up to a skylight. Apart from its distinctive architectural design, the hotel also housed the famed Maxim’s restaurant from Paris. With the Hong-Kong based Regent International Hotels group taking over management of the hotel in November 1988, it was renamed the Regent of Singapore. The Regent chain was bought over by Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts in 1992.
