The Hotel Negara at Claymore Road

Situated in a prime residential district which lies just off the main Orchard Road shopping belt, the Hotel Negara opened its doors for business in 1969. It was managed by Madam. Chang Jit Hao, the widow of Singapore’s first High Commissioner to Malaysia. Apart from having standard hotel facilities, the hotel also housed a public art gallery, where local artworks were bought and sold. The four-storey structure was demolished in 1992 and a new 21-storey building was completed in 1994. The hotel was sold to the UOL group by the United Overseas Bank in 2006 and the property was renamed the Negara on Claymore. A new hotel, the Pan Pacific Orchard, was launched on the site in 2008.
