The Miramar Hotel at Havelock Road

Opened in 1971, the Miramar Hotel was one of the many properties established around the outlying city area during the hotel construction boom of the late 1960s and 1970s. The hotel was hit by a spate of thefts during the 1970s and 1980s. It was also the venue for then Anson MP J.B Jeyaretnam’s public forum on free speech in July 1986. Following refurbishment works in 1992, and tapping on the proximity of the Singapore River, the hotel became part of a joint initiative by five hotels that was marketed as “The Riverside: Havelock Downtown Hotels” to draw tourists to the area in 1992.
