Pair of portraits

This pair of portraits is of a Peranakan couple from Indonesia mounted in their original frames. The man is wearing a black shirt, with a Chinese collar and gold buttons. The woman is wearing a kebaya, a traditional Peranakan Chinese outfit, with a set of kerosang (brooches) fastened in place. Her hair is pulled back in a sanggul (hair bun).Such portraits were usually hung in the halls of traditional Peranakan homes to commemorate revered ancestors.
