Tigers used to be found in the wild in Singapore and they posed a danger to the inhabitants of Singapore as large areas of forests had to be cleared for roads and plantations. By the mid 19th century, casualties caused by tiger attacks grew so intense that the colonial government had to offer a reward for every tiger killed. Tiger hunting thus became a rewarding sport for those seeking money and adventure.
