This is a power of attorney issued on 21 September 1917 by Robert Campbell Edwards to John Charles Peter, John Scrywgeoue, Alexander Ichesen Warrack, W.D. Mcbullagh, V.M. Grayburn, H.C. Aspindll, and all of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation of Singapore. He was residing in Nagasaki, Japan at the time of writing. The appointees were authorised to apply to the Supreme Court of the Straits Settlements in Singapore on behalf of Edwards for the letters of administration of the estate of his late wife, Helena Deborah Louise Edwards, who died interstate in Nagasaki on 1 March 1917. Once these letters of administration were obtained, they were required to administer her estate and to collect all possessions belonging to his wife. This document is part of the John Koh collection which comprises of various legal documents in Arabic, Jawi, and English, and serves as a record of the 19th and early 20th century colonial legal systems in Singapore and the interactions of various ordinary individuals with the law.
