This wood-carved wall bracket comprises an openwork floral panel. It is much like a lattice-work screen, but uses the running flower motif. It is framed by ornate columns from which spring 'makara torana' - arches in the shape of a mythical animal. The torana is surmounted by Gajalakshmi (Goddess Lakshmi with elephants).Elements from several schools of sculpture are borrowed in the making of this single bracket. The meandering floral design of the back draws inspiration from the exquisite floral windows of the Sidi Sayyid mosque (1527 CE). The columns and the arrangement of motifs on them in circular bands draw from Jaina temple architecture. The torana too is based on Jaina architecture as seen in the temples of Dilwara abd Ranakpur in Rajasthan in western India.
