This is a photograph of British soldiers gathering at a parade ground after the surrender of Japanese forces. During the Japanese Occupation, British soldiers were captured as prisoners of war. The Japanese unconditionally surrendered to the Allies on 15 August 1945. Japanese forces in the region laid down their arms, thus ending the three and a half years of the Japanese Occupation.
