Apart from themes illustrating Chinese folklore and legend, other forms of displays can also be seen throughout Haw Par Villa. Here, sculptures of mermaids and red carps can be seen housed in what was once a swimming pool. Originally called Tiger Balm Gardens, the theme park was built by Aw Boon Haw in 1937 with the intention of educating the public about Chinese culture.
