Apart from themes illustrating Chinese folklore and legend, other forms of displays can also be seen throughout Haw Par Villa. Here, sculptures of mermaids can be seen housed in what was once a swimming pool, where displays of red carps can also be seen. Originally called Tiger Balm Gardens, the theme park was built by Aw Boon Haw in 1937 with the intention of educating the public about Chinese culture.
