This card, titled “Singapore’s Last Hours”, shows how the Japanese invaded Singapore. They moved troops and vehicles across the Causeway, while their small boats went through the Straits of Johor. They also had planes. Overall, the impression is that the Japanese troops far outnumbered the British troops. Although the scene appears to depict Singapore’s last hours of freedom, it is actually just showing the beginning of the Japanese invasion. In a way, this is an ironic comment on the fate of the British defences that surrendered to the Japanese a week later.
