This is a relatively modern 19th century bound and printed version of the Markandeya Purana. The English text is complemented with illustrations.The Markandeya Purana is also known as Chandi Pat, Durga Saptashati (seven hundred verses) or Devi Mahatmya. The contents of this text range from the creation of Durga (who represents the power of the Supreme Being that preserves moral order and righteousness in the creation) to the creation of Kali (goddess of time and change), Chamunda (one of the seven mother goddesses) and the killing of the various demons and the final victory of the goddess.The victories of the goddess are no mere challenges but they represent evil spirits, negative forces and thoughts from our own mind. By reciting this text, a weak person gets protection, all obstacles will be removed and one can get deliverance from the cycle of birth and death.
