While the shape of this milk jug is clearly European in style, the decorative designs are typically Straits Chinese with phoenix and peony motifs and a brightly coloured enamelled background. This milk jar probably belonged to a tea set or coffee service that was specially commissioned by a wealthy English-educated Straits Chinese, who admired all things English.
