A stele depicting Buddha Shakyamuni at the moment of enlightenment (bhumisparsamudra). Surrounding him are seven other scenes from his life, depicted clockwise from bottom left: his birth showing Queen Maya holding the sala tree with the infant Buddha; the descent from Trayastrimasa heaven; the first sermon; the Parinirvana at the apex, his body laid horizontally, with a stupa to contain the physical remains; the miracle at Sravasti; the taming of the elephant Nalagiri; and the gift of honey from the monkey.An inscription on the back is the first two lines of the Buddhist creed, and the name of the donor.
