Postcards with multiple vignettes were popular during the early 1900s. The three Malay women are wearing a ‘baju panjang’ (long dress) and ‘kerosong’ (brooches), while the Indian man is wearing a turban. South Indians made up the bulk of Indian immigrants who made their way to Singapore and Malaya to find jobs and a better life.
