This postcard bears a stamp with a map of Southeast Asia commemorating the Japanese 1942 victory in Singapore. Singapore was then regarded as an “impregnable fortress” in the British Far East and its fall to the Japanese took many people by surprise. In fact, bad intelligence and poor planning on the British part helped the swift Japanese invasion. Then British Prime Minister Winston Churchill was even prompted to call it “the worst disaster” in British history.
