This candlestick is typical of Six Dynasties Yue ware. It has a small dish with curving sides and a slightly flaring raised foot. On it stands an octagonal stem with incised lines at the top, perhaps in imitation of a bamboo stem. It also comes with a modelled floral and ring holders on each side to support candles. The green glaze is thinly applied over this heavily modelled piece. Stylistically, this piece appears to be a later version as the earlier pieces have a flat and wider base. This piece might date to the early Tang dynasty (618-906 CE). This type of ware is found mainly with burial wares in tombs in Fujian province.
