Although most Straits Chinese teacups are small, ranging from 3.5 cm to 7 cm in diameter, there are also larger teacups which come together with a matching cover. Both the smaller and bigger teacups have everted rims and are gilded on the edges. The former features insect and floral motifs, while the latter features phoenix and floral motifs with the eight Buddhist emblems filling the rims.
