Five dollar Straits Settlements note

The Government of the Straits Settlements was given the authorisation to issue currency notes in 1898 by the Ordinance VIII of 1897. All Straits Settlements notes feature the emblem of the Straits Settlements, with the inscription, ‘The Government of the Straits Settlements promises to pay the bearer on demand at Singapore. Local currency for value received’.
