Luxurious indigo dye was used here to create the deep blue bands. The coloured ikat bands depict stylised manta rays, a common motif, and a creature hunted by the seafaring people of the region. Textiles made by the Lamaholot people of Lembata were used as marriage gifts. They were highly sought after, and traded to the non-weaving communities of western Alor Island.
